Trippier Returns to Premier League After Impressive La Liga Stint
Newcastle United have completed the signing of right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid for a fee of £12 million plus add-ons. The England international has signed a two-year contract with the Magpies.
Trippier, 33, left Tottenham Hotspur for Atletico Madrid in 2019 and has since established himself as one of the top right-backs in La Liga. He played a key role in Atletico's title triumph in the 2020/21 season and was named in the UEFA Champions League Team of the Season in 2020.
Newcastle have been in the market for a new right-back following the departure of Javier Manquillo to Barcelona. Trippier brings a wealth of experience and quality to the Magpies' squad and is expected to play a major role in their quest for a top-half finish in the Premier League this season.
